Adaeze Nwanyị: The Priestess, Her Spiritual Nature and Roles.

EZE does not mean KING. Similarly, ada ezenwanyi or Ezenwoke does not connote King-Woman and King-Man. The simple meaning of Adaeze nwanyi depicts a priestess while Ezenwoke is a priest. Now Adaeze nwanyi is a natural, spiritual and physical position ordained and given to a woman naturally from birth. No contention or ambiguities. It is a spiritual title first before any others. Adaeze nwanyi represents a wealthy, senior, titled wife, a mother, grandmother, a woman who commands enormous respect in the village or city whatever her location. She embodies Igbo feminine ideals of strength, wisdom, creativity, divine knowledge, beauty, stature, power, compassion, dignity, and is a leader among women. As Igbo scholar Chike Aniakor has noted, “. . her wealth and title remind us that all are not equal, for her achievements are outside the reach of most.” Ezenwanyị are “the kind of women, one fights for.” One can be an Ezenwayi in different spheres of life but the one that concerns us today, is in Igbo Spirituality.

The great mothers of entire world. The mother earth: Ndi Umu Ada Gbo/Ancient daughters of Ancient of Days Igbo/Nature. The living woman (the Igbo Woman). When they speak the world listens both spiritually and physically. They have mandate to be holy in deeds and words, epitomizes tranquility, honesty, more powerful when they truthfully ascend such status. A higher level Ada ezenwanyi, has Ikenga like male counterparts of Igbo and sometimes stay back to marry females to have her own children that will bear her name in the olden days. She becomes too powerful for men to bed. She becomes the original nun and her words penetrates stones. She is no match for others around her and is highly respected.

There are powerful spirits from her father’s home that follows her to the husband’s place to team up with the spirits in her new married home. Spirits like Agwụ, Ogwugwu, Arobinagu, Ndị Ichie, Aja-ani, Alusi, Ndị Mmiri, Chi etc. Her powers doubles up unlike her male counter parts. Ezenwanyi has ability to intervene, liberate, heal, invoke, declare, mediate between the spiritual, physical and personal forces as an extraordinary personality and naturally gifted priestess (Ọ natara Chi). She is not a match for weak men nor weak women. She is neither compared nor a match for other women with smaller Chi. Her chi is mighty and speaks fire with invisible flames from mouth. She cannot be intimidated by anyone neither does she back down from any challenge thus she does not hesitate to bring war to anyone, if dared.

A priestess is a shaman, a medium, light worker, a healer, an empath, playful, kind hearted with good aura that magnets and attracts goodness, highly intuitive, simple, fearless, courageous, calculative with deep soulful insights. She is clairvoyant in nature, sees and thinks ahead. As a shaman, her psychic abilities can make or mar people. Naturally, a priestess is formidable and she is seen as being bossy in nature to people who never understands her. Any man that can marry her, must have a bigger and powerful Chi or she dominates him and becomes CEO. She is not timid but very different from other women because her Chi is powerful.

Igbo priestesses have Agwu/natural powers/energies that makes any priestess, extraordinary in nature. A priestess is restored and aligned to her Agwu, else understanding her is difficult. If her Agwu is not settled, only a person with a higher Agwu/powers, will she listen to and the rests, are less impactful. Until her Agwu is ready, she is not a woman people can easily say she’s a perfect wife for anyone. Once her AGWỤ is settled, Ada ezenwanyi transforms to a treasure, a healer, teacher, seeker, giver, a protector and a precious jewel of inestimable value in her family and in the life of any living human and mankind. She is a goddess that is endowed with so many physical and spiritual blessings following her to any man’s home. She is not to be trifled with because her wrath can be a consuming flame. For that reason, a priestess should be in control of her tongue as her utterances or whatever she says comes to pass. She should be an epitome of purity, holiness and sacredness being a carrier of power, neither desecrate her body or home. To shoulder great responsibilities, is what any priestess is destined for. Therefore, a priestess should walk her path with honor, light and integrity.
