Udo is father-earth, a good ancestral spirit adorned with the clothing of onye Ọzọ. An Igbo god of diplomacy. Almost, every family has UDO, it all depends on what one’s own community call him. Nna Ani is how he is regarded. If, there is Nne Ani, we also have Nna Ani who is her husband. A father figure or father earth, some call him Eze Chukwu as ones lingo permits. Acknowledging his existence is very important to balance the spiritual equation.
Importantly, Nna Ani is that wise and ancient man with white hairs and beards, looks strong, powerful, regal and fatherly in appearance. A magnificent male, splendidly adorned in all white regalia and headgear of onye ọzọ. His aura is calming, as a harbinger of peace. Yet strict when it comes to dispensation of judgment and justice to offenders.
He is a depiction of positive, masculine energy. Nna Anyị Ani Dị Asọ, is peace loving and a malevolent God that is visible where harmony exists. UDO as a peace maker when invoked, listens when there are difficulties between friends, families, communities and he mediates. The spirit operates in calmness and gentility, just as a dove 🕊 or pigeon but never never underestimate him. The god of purity and holiness reincarnate humans. Any human that stands out with the spiritual symbolic qualities of UDO, who always ensures that peace reigns, can be said to be reincarnated by UDO. This incarnate, detests any form of violence in real life.
Nevertheless, Udo only judges then dispenses judgement and justice when every effort for peacemaking has been exhausted. He acts swiftly and deals decisively with the offenders. He hardly fights except when pushed to the wall by violence brought upon his children. The ancestral mediator and diplomat in Igbo spirituality is Udo. Ka udo chịa n’ala anyị mana ndụ ndị Igbo!
