Pythons and Snakes represents the black women, the first Mother on the planet and Divine Energy. Python and Snake represents spiritual wisdom, life, transformation, rebirth and healing as seen in medical world where snake symbols are used. This symbolizes black women and the various representations of snakes for the same various reasons. The shedding of their skin represents rebirth and the need to be free. They lay close to the ground which makes them incredibly down to earth and practical. Python and Snakes love freedom and they will fight to the death if they feel threatened.
Python and snakes are revered worldwide. I recall many years ago, when I traveled to Cotonou, Ouidah in Benin Republic as a French language student. The Python Temple is a sacred place with a powerful Snake goddess and people from all over the world worship there. There are many colorful snakes and pythons of every shapes and sizes in the Python temple. I saw young ladies and old women, virgins consecrated to worship and serve their snake goddess who protects, heals and blesses that community. Python and Snake are associated with voodoo worship over there. Ouidah, is also a place of tourist attraction. While here in Igbo society they are revered as gatekeepers, covenant bearers, messengers of Chukwu, Nne Mmiri, Nne Ani Dị Asọ specifically known as Ogwugwu.
Python and Snake symbolize or signifies Agwụ Ndị Mmiri for the mariners chosen and called to serve Nne Mmiri. They appear and signal to the chosen via dreams or physical appearance of colorful snakes, black snakes, Green snakes and Pythons.
Snake charmers have inherent ability to charm snakes in other to remove them from unwanted places, heal snake bites or control them from unwanted movements as most humans are scared of seeing snakes and pythons in their environment.
Snake and Pythons are very potent deities of our land and symbols of the covenant enacted between our forebears, guardians and gatekeepers of various communities. For instance, Enugwu-Ukwu, Ekwulu Mmili or Idemili in Anambra state, there is EKE Idemili that is revered, loved, worshipped and the python lives in harmony with the people and often visits them. Machina in Yobe state: it is a taboo to kill snakes. They do not harm people but comes out when the royals are celebrating or mourning the dead. In IMO State, snakes helped natives to escape several dangers during the Civil War and in various villages among others that exist in various communities. Villagers are mandated never to harm snakes or pythons whenever they visit people’s homes.
The snake or python can be associated with negativity from the religious group. However in the old testament it was symbolic for natural healing. What nature created can be used in duality either negative or positive. Depending on who or what welds the power. I will always emphasise to people, every power is about balancing, in spirituality even in religion. These totems have been linked to magic in every tradition. Another significant factor is rebirth or renewal. Snake has the ability to shed its old skin when it grows it. The casting off, of this skin metaphorically, represents the release of old ways of thinking that do not work in our lives. The fresh new skin found underneath is rebirth and new beginnings and purification. To many cultures the power of these reptilians are representations of vital energy. This energy remains coiled within at the base of our spine in the sacrum, a triangular bone there it sits dormant until it’s ready to move.
No need to suppress and deny our feminine energy because it keeps us away from experiencing this balance which is reflected in the world today by rules, judgments, expectations, guilt and denial of these feelings especially against women. Snakes and pythons serves as totems of deities or ancestral Gods. It is forbidden to kill snakes and pythons in various communities because of its spirituality. This means, if you are in Rome, behave like Romans, it has been so in ancient times, till date.
